From the years 1775 to 1783 the thirteen British colonies battled their mother country, England, to finally obtain freedom from its overpowering laws after years of war against the French and Indians. Before this, the British imposed numerous unreasonable taxes that oppressed the colonists. These acts consist of, but are not limited to the the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act of 1765, the Declaratory Act of 1766 and the Townshend Acts of 1767. These acts were all efforts to maintain control of the colonies as they began to financially thrive without the British benefiting from their success. After being fed up with these unjust taxes, colonists such as Samuel Adams and Benjamin Franklin took matters into their own hands. The British Famous battles from the war include the battles of Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Saratoga and Yorktown. The American Revolutionary War occurred due to an overwhelming taxation that forced the colonists to take action in order to win their independence from the oppressive British reign.
